Foxtail Palm      This attractive small palm is noted for its grey hour glass shaped trunks which are topped with soft green, feathery, fishtail-like leaves  with tips that appear jagged and torn. Although able to reach 40 feet in height, the Foxtail Palm is most often seen 15 to 30 feet in height with  a variable spread. The four foot long, branched flower stalks hang below the crownshaft throughout the year and display large, orange fruits. These blooms give way to bright red, showy sprays of 2-3 inch long fruits which ripen year round. Fast becoming one of the most popular landscaping palms in the tropics and sub-tropics. It is an extremely hardy palm, being able to take full sun from a very early age, drought tolerant, wind tolerant, and frost tolerant as well.          This spectacular palm was only discovered in the late 1970's and because of demand for seeds and it being endemic to only a very small area there developed a flourishing black market in its seed for several years. Even today, the Queensland Government still has the palm on its endangered species list, even tho there are now tens of thousands of the palms growing throughout the world, many of which are now fruiting.     This palm is in high demand for landscaping in tropical and sub-tropical areas. It also makes a great house plant for a sunny location.

The common name is derived from the very full appearance of the leaves, formed by the circular arrangement of the leaflets around the rachis.         The Foxtail palm is very fast-growing, and appears adaptable to a broad range of soil conditions. The Foxtail Palm prefers full sun.
Of the tribe Arecceae, and subfamily Arecoideae it is also known by the botanic name Wodyetia bifurcata.

Please have potting media and a container prepared for your plant before it arrives. Shipping can be stressful on a plant, and any mistakes that you make upon arrival can stress the plant further, which is not good. Proper care is critical upon arrival. It is your responsibility to know how to care for the plant. NO REPLACEMENT WILL BE CONSIDERED IF YOU HAVE REPOTTED THE PLANT. Not every plant that I order through the mail survives, and I am aware of that and accept the risk when I order. This is the risk that you as the buyer accept, because there is no way to know what kind of conditions it will endure in the trip to your door.
