The Blue Stem Palmetto Palm is one of the hardiest palms in the world, and for many areas it is one of few palms that can be grown outdoors. Sabal minor has become the favorite of many throughout the world for its beauty, durability and its exceptional easy maintenance characteristics. A distinguishing feature of Sabal minor is it's underground trunk.  Sabal minor is touted in the plant trade as being the hardiest palm, and often pictured under snowfall. Coldhardiness is also genetically determined, with plants from its northernmost range being the most hardy.       Blue Stem Palmetto Palm is grown as a landscape plant as far north as Rhode Island.
Sabal minor is a small fan palm with a trunk that remains below ground. This palm is highly variable, due to genetics. Its native range is the coastal plain of the Atlantic states and the states along the Gulf of Mexico, and the varieties grow larger from East to West, with some specimens in Texas found growing as tall as 18 feet. These seeds are from the smallest Sabal minor I've seen.          Beautiful evergreen foliage makes a dramatic statement under tree canopies and other shady places. Sabal minor is a very fine dwarf palm with glaucous, silvery-green, fan-shaped leaves, almost circular in outline, and deeply and geometrically cut into 20 or 30 segments. The deep green and somewhat bluish leaves are cut with very pronounced V's.	Culture:Seedlings should be grown out in a pot for a year or two as young plants have not developed their legendary cold hardiness. Moisture: Prefers moist soils but can tolerate drought Height: 3-18 ft. Sabal minor fronds are usually 4 feet wide and 4 feet long, are deeply divided and droop at the tips. The costapalmate leaves are deep green with a blue-green tinge. The leaf stem of Sabal minor leaves extend through the center of the palmate leaf. The smooth petiole (leaf stem) is a little longer than the leaf. The inflorescence (cluster of flowers) is erect, extending well above the leaves.         Sabal minor has been a favored Sabal because very little maintenance is required with leaves that are self pruning. All that is required is that you pick up the fallen leaves. A lush Sabal minor canopy will contain about 40 mature leaves at a single time. It is not known to be invasive and has no known serious pests.      Soil conditions are not critical as the tree is very adaptable and even drought tolerant making this an excellent choice for xeriscape gardens. Sabal minor is a very cold tolerant tree that has been reported to survive the low teens temperature range with minimal leaf damage.

USDA requires me to clean and prepare every last piece before we drive them to the Inspection Station on the other side of the island. It takes my wife and I, 2-3 days to pack items and get ready to ship. The whole next day we drive around the island and get inspected (2-3 hours), then drive to the Airport Post Office to drop off. It takes the same work with the same type item if you can understand.

Please have potting media and a container prepared for your plant before it arrives. Shipping can be stressful on a plant, and any mistakes that you make upon arrival can stress the plant further, which is not good. Proper care is critical upon arrival. It is your responsibility to know how to care for the plant. Not every plant that I order through the mail survives, and I am aware of that and accept the risk when I order. This is the risk that you as the buyer accept, because there is no way to know what kind of conditions it will endure in the trip to your door. My responsibility ends when a live plant is delivered to your door. Live arrival is guaranteed, eternal survival is up to you. Please Do NOT email me a week after potting your plant, and make a claim it arrived damaged. From delivery confirmation, you have only 48 hours from delivery confirmation to make any claim.	All claims need to be supported with Photos of the damaged plant(s) as packed/unpacked, the box if damaged, the packing materials and any documents.
