Used extensively in Indian and Southeast Asian cuisine, and is an important ingredient in Worcestershire sauce. The juice is used to pickle fish in India. The Tamarind tree is a beautiful, fine textured tree and it makes an excellent shade tree in large landscapes. It has a short, stocky trunk, drooping branches and a domed umbrella shaped crown about as wide as the tree's height. It often is planted in public parks and as an avenue tree in tropical cities. Tamarind is a slow growing tree that, once established, needs no attention at all. |

The 3 to 8 inch long, brown pods are borne in abundance along the new branches. As the pods mature, they fill out somewhat and the juicy, acidulous pulp turns brown or reddish-brown. When fully ripe, the shells are brittle and easily broken. The pulp dehydrates to a sticky paste enclosed by a few coarse stands of fiber. The pods may contain up to12 large, flat, glossy brown, obovate seeds embedded in the brown, edible pulp. The pulp has a pleasing sweet/sour flavor and is high in both acid and sugar. It is also rich in vitamin B and high in calcium. There are wide differences in fruit size and flavor in seedling trees. Indian types have longer pods with 6 - 12 seeds, while the West Indian types have shorter pods containing only 3 - 6 seeds. |

Tamarinds are extensively cultivated in tropical areas of the world. The Tamarind is well adapted to semiarid tropical conditions, although it does well in many humid tropical areas of the world with seasonally high rainfall. Young trees are very susceptible to frost, but mature trees will withstand brief periods of 28° F without serious injury. Dry weather is important during the period of fruit development. It is moderately salt tolerant and can be grown in coastal locations. It makes an excellent bonsai subject. |

Tamarind is a large tropical tree with a short massive trunk, ferny pinnate leaves, small yellow flowers and fat reddish brown pods. Tamarinds are slow-growing, long-lived, evergreen trees that under optimum conditions, in its native habitat can grow 80 feet high with a spread of 20 to 35 ft. This tree can get tall but is usually less than 30 feet. In cultivation, it seldom reaches more than 15 to 25 ft.
Tamarinds bright green, lacy looking foliage is dense and feathery. Tamarinds make a wonderful shade tree with their open branches. Tamarinds pinnate leaflets close up at night. The inconspicuous, inch-wide, five-petalled flowers are yellow with orange or red streaks. The flower buds are pink. More information about Tamarindus indica (tamarind)

Please only one Paypal payment. SO THE COMBINED SHIPPING RULE WILL CAN BE USED. Multiple paypal payments are NOT eligible for discounts. We will ship once a week - ON or BEFORE WEDNESDAYS, because of the special stamps needed to ship plants and cuttings to you. This can only be done at the Dept. of Agriculture. If payments are not met before that MONDAY, your items will be shipped the following week and lose the combined discount opportunity. Non-paying bidders may receive negative feedback and will be reported as an unpaid item to eBay.
COMBINED SHIPPING POLICY INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING is not included in this offer. See INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING ON LIVE PLANTS We will combine shipping for auctions won on the same week paid with same paypal payment. This policy is good for all items bought and paid for in the week ending MONDAY. Payment must be received within 7 days of the auction ending. Combined Discounts Won Auctions For 2-3 winning auctions, the combined discount is 10% of the total Shipping and Handling charges. For 4-7 winning auctions, the combined discount is 20% of the total Shipping and Handling charges. For 7+ winning auctions, the combined discount is 30% of the total Shipping and Handling charges. As each order is packed and prepared separately you will pay the quoted S/H charges individually per item. If you buy the same species in that item it does calculate out the discount (i.e.: additional item $3.61). My stores' combined shipping is built in for same items rather than a varied selection. Includes postage, USDA certification and inspection, proper packing and delivery to Airport for prompt delivery. I cant really change any of these. If you want one of this and one of that, it gets hard to discount much as each different species requires it's own prep & packing, then at USDA each has to be unwrapped and inspected then repacked. USDA requires me to clean and prepare every last piece before we drive them to the Inspection Station on the other side of the island. It takes my wife and I, a day to pack items and get ready to ship. The whole next day we drive around the island and get inspected (2-3 hours), then drive to the Airport Post Office to drop off. It takes the same work with the same type item if you can understand.
