A common name for this plant is Brazilian Grape.
These large round fruits resemble purple grapes but the dark maroon-purple, almost black
skin is tougher and thicker. The average size is one inch in diameter but they can run
from 3/4 to 1-1/2 inches depending on the species. The pulp is white with a slightly
acidic flavor. The Jaboticaba fruits look like purple grapes and have a very sweet,
slightly aromatic, translucent pulp with a pleasant grape flavor. The whole fruit is
consumed fresh.
The tree should be planted where it
will receive full sun. Can achieve very large yields and does not take up
much room in the yard. Its crown (uppermost) roots should be 2 to 3 inches higher than
surrounding soil levels to provide for water run-off. Peat, compost or rotted manure may
be mixed with the soil from the planting hole to improve it. It must be a well aerated
mixture. Water should be applied as needed around the newly set tree to maintain good
moisture conditions. Constant wet soil or flooding is undesirable. |

A lovely tree when all covered in the little white powder puff
flowers. These are small to medium sized trees, reaching from 3 to
10 meters tall. The tree is round when young, losing this shape when
become old. The leaves are small, with the characteristic myrtle
aroma.
The flowers show up directly on the branches, and the flowering is massive,
taking over the plant with small white flowers. Most flowers will originate
fruits. These fruits have a dark purple, almost black, fibrous and bitter
peel (but not bad tasting, bitter like guava for example). The pulp is
sweet, white and gelatinous, with only one seed. This seed is spherical and
soft, and might be eaten along with the rest, it has no taste. |
The mature Jaboticaba tree produces
an abundance of delicious fruit throughout most of the year. This fruit can be eaten fresh
or be made into jellies, jams, or wine. Both fruit and juice are well preserved by
freezing. The Jaboticaba is a very attractive plant with good landscape value. It is well
worth planting more extensively.
Jaboticaba trees grow
best on deep, rich and well-drained soil. If the trees are heavily irrigated in the dry
season, they may bear several crops a year. The tree blooms several times per year and,
with only 20 to 30 days from bloom to harvest, there may be 5 to 6 crops per year.
The Jaboticaba grows and fruits best when grown in a
rich, deep soil with a slightly acid pH. Although it is not well adapted to alkaline
soils, it may be grown successfully by thinly mulching and applying necessary nutrients.
The tree is not tolerant to salts, flooding, and drought. Jaboticaba trees
have attractive foliage and nice peeling brown bark. It's moderately
hardy-mature trees tolerating temperatures as low as 24-27 degrees. |

Small,
bushy tree or large shrub with fine-textured evergreen foliage and multicolored bark. It
grows very slowly in South Florida, seldom exceeding a height of 15 feet. However, the
tree may grow to considerable size in the deep, fertile soil of its native habitat in
Brazil, often exceeding 30 feet in height. Older trees have round dark purple fruit
growing out of trunks and branches. A slow growing tree, it may take 8 or more years
before it bears fruit. After flowering, the fruit develops quickly, sometimes in as few as
3 weeks. The fruit has a refreshing grape-like taste and can be used for making drinks,
jellies, or wine. New Jaboticaba shoots are an orange-red with
opposite paired leaves. When a healthy vigorously growing tree is pruned, generally two
new growths emerge and it is possible to train primarily by pruning. |

We will combine shipping for auctions won on the same week paid with same paypal payment.
This policy is good for all items bought and paid for in the week ending MONDAY.

Combined
Discounts Won Auctions
For 2-3 winning auctions, the combined discount is 10% of the total Shipping and Handling
charges. For 4-7 winning auctions, the combined discount is 20% of the total Shipping and
Handling charges. For 7+ winning auctions, the combined discount is 30% of the total
Shipping and Handling charges.

As each order is packed and prepared separately you will pay the quoted S/H charges
individually per item. If you buy the same species in that item it does calculate out the
discount (i.e.: additional item $3.61). My stores' combined shipping is built in for same
items rather than a varied selection. Includes postage, USDA certification and inspection,
proper packing and delivery to Airport for prompt delivery. I can’t really change any
of these. If you want one of this and one of that, it gets hard to discount much as each
different species requires it's own prep & packing, then at USDA each has to be
unwrapped and inspected then repacked. USDA requires me to clean and prepare every last
piece before we drive them to the Inspection Station on the other side of the island. It
takes my wife and I, a day to pack items and get ready to ship. The whole next day we
drive around the island and get inspected (2-3 hours), then drive to the Airport Post
Office to drop off. It takes the same work with the same type item if you can understand.
